In the first half of the 19th century The British East India Company, concerned by China's virtual monopoly on the tea trade began the cultivation of tea plantations in the British colonies of India and Ceylon. Despite producing the vast majority of tea being drunk in Britain consumption within India remained low until independent sellers began to add local spices and large quantities of milk to the drink and invented Masala Chai. To honour this tradition we have created a classic Indian chai from a om a rich Assam black tea blended with a carefully selected combination of traditional Chai spices chosen for their flavour as well as their restorative properties and ability to aid in digestion.
